Lately we’ve been working hard on lurking out all the hiding places of cool startups in Stockholm. Stockholm is a city with a history of innovation and today is no exception. There’s a lot going on! In the previous issue of Wired we even got named “one of Europe’s hottest startup capitals”. Not bad.

But like any other hot startup capital in Europe, Stockholm has a couple of problems standing in it’s way. One is the difficulty of recruiting people from other places because of a very expensive and inflexible housing market.

Another is that there´s no “silicon valley” or “silicon roundabout” in Stockholm. As you can see on the map, there’s no geographical epicenter for startups. We’re spread out all over town. 

That might be one of the reasons that the startup-community in Stockholm is fairly weak, and that there’s few natural meeting places for the tech-savvy. It’s like getting on a bus where everybody chooses to sit by themselves instead of sharing the ride with somebody going in the same direction. There’s so much happening right now and so many talented people living and working in Stockholm - so why don’t we meet more often and share ideas?

A strong community is something we can create together. One of the reasons for creating this map is of course that we are curios of what is going on in Stockholm at the moment, but the main reason is that we want Stockholm startups to get to know each other and hang out more. We need more both formal and informal meeting places.
